What is the Wayne County Commission?

The Wayne County Commission is essentially a regional city council that makes up the county legislative body. The primary function is to adopt resolutions, approve budgets, and enact ordinances. The commission is made up of 15 commission members who are elected from their home districts. District 11 is comprised of 7 municipalities including Wayne, Romulus, Van Buren Twp, Belleville, Sumpter Twp, Huron Twp, and Flat Rock. 

When does the County Commission meet? 

The full commission holds two regular meetings each month, usually on the first and third Thursdays at 10 a.m. The Wayne County Commission has its offices and holds its meetings in the Guardian Building, 500 Griswold, in downtown Detroit. All meetings are also available via Zoom and the commission’s YouTube channel.

What are the County Commission Committees? 

The Wayne County Commission uses a committee system, with eight standing committees. The eight standing committees are: Audit; Economic Development; Government Operations; Health & Human Services; Public Safety, Judiciary & Homeland Security; Public Services; Ways & Means; and Seniors and Veterans Affairs. Each has five to seven members. Special committees include Rules, Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice Complex. The commission also oversees the Benefits/Staffing Task Force and Youth Council. These committees are designed to review and discuss issues within each parameter they pertain to. 

What does Wayne County provide?

Wayne County serves several functions including storing records, operates a public health department, provides medical examiner’s services, coordinates programs for senior citizens like Meals on Wheels, provides veterans services and operates a county parks system with recreational activities. The county also services much of the infrastructure like many of our roads, bridges, and drains. Safety and security are provided through the county from the Wayne County Sheriff's office and the prosecutor’s office. This is a sample of the many vital services our county provides us.

Working-class Americans need a working-class leader who will fight to improve their quality of life. David Hotz is strong advocate on modernizing our cities while ensuring we protect and help our rural communities thrive. Constructing the pillars of success which includes improving the infrastructure, safety, and education so we can develop our communities for a prosperous future. We need leaders who can strengthen our unions, advocate for living wages, represent all constituents, expand programs, bring development that the community profits from, and combat environmental dangers. David would use his platform to organize efforts outside the county realm on important issues like healthcare and improving our election process. He will serve the community above wealth or ambition. That's the integrity and ethics that District 11 needs in the Wayne County Commission. We need to elect David Hotz, because We Deserve Better and We Can Do Better!
